Mahindra BE 6 Electric SUV: Powering India’s EV Ambition

Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. has officially unveiled the Mahindra BE 6 Electric SUV, marking a major milestone in India’s electric vehicle transformation. Revealed in Mumbai on November 2, 2025, the BE 6 is Mahindra’s first long-range electric model based on the scalable INGLO platform, a foundation for its future “Born Electric” (BE) range.

This mid-size crossover combines global design excellence with local manufacturing capability. With up to 500 kilometres on a single charge, the Mahindra BE 6 Electric SUV promises a refined blend of power, luxury, and sustainability tailored for the next generation of Indian drivers.

INGLO Platform: Engineering the Future

The Mahindra BE 6 Electric SUV is the first production model built on Mahindra’s INGLO (Indian Global) platform, developed in collaboration with Volkswagen Group. It shares compatibility with Volkswagen’s MEB (Modular Electric Drive Matrix) architecture, ensuring high performance, modular flexibility, and top-tier safety standards.

Speaking at the launch, Rajesh Jejurikar, Executive Director (Auto and Farm Sectors), stated that the BE 6 embodies Mahindra’s belief that India can design and produce world-class electric vehicles. The platform will also underpin upcoming models such as the BE 7, BE Rall-E, and XUV e9, scheduled for release between 2026 and 2028.

Performance, Range, and Charging Efficiency

The Mahindra BE 6 Electric SUV will feature two battery pack options—59 kWh and 79 kWh—using nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) cells sourced from LG Energy Solution. Under the Modified Indian Driving Cycle (MIDC), the larger 79 kWh pack delivers a stunning 680 km range, while the smaller variant achieves approximately 500 km.

It supports 175 kW DC fast charging for a 10–80% charge in about 30 minutes, and 11 kW AC home charging for overnight replenishment. Powertrain options include rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive, offering 170–210 kW of output (228–282 bhp). The BE 6 can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in under 6.5 seconds, placing it in competition with models like the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6—but at a more affordable price.

Design and Interior Innovation

Designed by Mahindra Advanced Design Europe (MADE) in Oxfordshire, the BE 6 exhibits a coupé-style exterior with aerodynamic curves, a floating roofline, and C-shaped LED lighting. Its design enhances efficiency while projecting a futuristic identity.

Inside, the cabin follows a “techno-natural” philosophy—minimalist, connected, and comfortable. A 12.3-inch central infotainment screen and a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster dominate the dashboard. Powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Cockpit Platform, the system supports Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, 5G connectivity, and OTA updates.

The all-new Skyline Intelligence interface integrates AI-driven voice control, range prediction, and navigation optimized by terrain and weather. Safety remains a top priority, with Level 2 ADAS, nine airbags, and a projected five-star Global NCAP rating.

Pricing, Variants, and Market Position

Analysts estimate that the Mahindra BE 6 Electric SUV will be priced from ₹18.9 lakh to ₹26.9 lakh (ex-showroom), depending on configuration. This pricing bridges the gap between Mahindra’s popular XUV700 and the upcoming XUV e9. The BE 6 directly competes with the Tata Curvv EV, MG ZS EV, and Hyundai Kona Electric, making it a strong contender in India’s fast-expanding mid-size EV segment.

According to Counterpoint Research, the BE 6 will play a key role in driving adoption in the ₹20–25 lakh price band—a space expected to grow rapidly as consumers transition away from internal combustion engines.

Market Challenges and Infrastructure Growth

While India’s EV ecosystem is growing rapidly, infrastructure development remains uneven. As of October 2025, India had around 11,000 public EV chargers. However, under the FAME-II scheme, the government continues to expand subsidies and incentives for EV buyers and manufacturers. The upcoming EV Policy 2025 aims to further boost domestic EV assembly and battery standardization.

Mahindra is also collaborating with Adani Total Energies to install over 3,000 fast-charging stations across metropolitan cities by 2026, significantly reducing range anxiety for BE 6 owners.

Ownership Advantage and Cost Efficiency

The Mahindra BE 6 Electric SUV promises a low ownership cost, estimated at under ₹1 per kilometre, compared to ₹6–₹8 for petrol or diesel equivalents. Maintenance expenses are projected to be nearly 40 percent lower due to fewer moving components and regenerative braking systems.

Owners can also benefit from state EV subsidies such as Delhi’s ₹10,000 per kWh incentive and Maharashtra’s road tax exemption—making the BE 6 an even more attractive and economical choice.

Global Expansion and Sustainability Vision

Mahindra plans to export the BE 6 to Southeast Asia, the United Kingdom, and Africa by 2027, leveraging right-hand-drive compatibility and its partnership with Volkswagen to cut development costs by up to 15 percent. The brand’s FutureScape facility in Pune will serve as a research hub for EV software, batteries, and system integration.

Environmentally, Mahindra projects that BE 6 production will cut over 100,000 tonnes of annual CO₂ emissions. The company aims to use 40 percent recycled or renewable materials by 2030, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable manufacturing.

The Road Ahead

Bookings for the Mahindra BE 6 Electric SUV are expected to open in early 2026, with deliveries starting by the third quarter. The success of this EV will test Mahindra’s ability to scale production while maintaining service quality and competitive pricing. If achieved, it could solidify Mahindra’s leadership in India’s mid-size electric vehicle market.
