HSRP deadline extended in Maharashtra to December 31, 2025. Vehicle owners must install high-security number plates by this date or face penalties.
HSRP Deadline Extended in Maharashtra: Final Extension
The transport department of Maharashtra has announced that the HSRP deadline has been extended once again to December 31, 2025. This extension gives vehicle owners more time to install high-security registration plates (HSRP) on vehicles registered before April 1, 2019.
Why the HSRP Deadline Extended Again?
This marks the fifth extension of the HSRP deadline. After the High Court order mandated the installation of security number plates on older vehicles, several extensions have been granted due to low compliance. So far, only 90 lakh out of 2.10 crore eligible vehicles have registered for HSRP, and just 73 lakh have completed installation.
Importance of Installing HSRP
The high-security number plates are vital for better vehicle identification, especially in cases of accidents and crimes. Installing these plates will make tracking and penalizing reckless or criminal vehicle activity easier, improving overall road safety.

Current Status in Pune and Maharashtra
In Pune alone, approximately 1,50,000 vehicles still lack security number plates, which corresponds to 65% of vehicles on the road without HSRP. Despite repeated deadline extensions, many vehicle owners have yet to comply. The transport department warns that from January 1, 2026, strict penalties will be imposed, and no services will be provided by RTO for vehicles without these plates.
Final Warning on HSRP Deadline Extended
The Transport Commissioner has declared this extension as final. The enforcement team, Vayuveg, will take strict action against violators after December 31, 2025. Vehicle owners are urged to install HSRP immediately to avoid fines and penalties.
